David Zagzoug's Story
David Zagzoug is 42 years old, father of four, has a twin brother and two sisters all brought up in Burlington, MA. His siblings are all local. Judy in Tewksbury, Carol in Woburn, and his twin Steven lives in Marlboro.  David graduated Burlington High School in 1989.  Some of David's family and friends are included in the photos page, take a look. In November of 2002, David Zagzoug fell from a ladder and suffered a tear to his Achilles tendon which required surgery. David contracted Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) from non-sterile equipment used at the hospital. MRSA is a treatable (not curable) staph infection but is also called “superbug”.The MRSA attacks the path of least resistance, which for David is his heart.  David had an AFIB event in 2003, after which he had to have a pacemaker defibrillator installed, and many other heart related surgeries. Since that time he has been unable to work to provide for himself or his four children.  Now at 42 year old, David has congestive heart failure (CHF). David can no longer live alone or do any physical activity. He tires quickly and is unable to participate in his four children’s everyday lives. The CHF requires that he be hospitalized about every other month to drain fluid that surrounds his heart (more often than that recently). CHF can lead to the heart failure and other organs shutting down, including his liver which has been damaged as a direct result of his heart issues. Without this surgery his prognosis is less than a year! We need your support!  Help us SAVE DAVE!!

Why We Still Need Your Help
During David's hospitalization requires his parents (Mickey and Janet) to be nearby or at the hospital in case they get the call. Mom and Dad were staying at a nearby hotel, at a family discounted rate, still costing $30 a day, not including food, gas
and David's extremely costly anti-rejection medications. David will also be responsible for any costs insurance will not cover. David's parent have found a wonderful place for David to rehab
and have recently moved in just the weekend before his transplant. They are paying rent in addition to their own and David's mortgage. They will be there at least 5-6 months, depending on David's recovery.

DAVID HAS A NEW HEART (9/24)!

Picture
David walking the halls of Mayo (9/29)
His new birthday! David was at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.  Everything went smoothly.  He was in recovery overnight (9/24-25), family got some rest. David is (9/25) concious and talking!  He's sitting up talking on his cell and computer (9/26). David took a walk around the halls (the loop) and has had lots of tubes taken out (9/27). More tubes taken out today (9/28), numbers are looking good. David's walking the hall, talk of him getting out on Monday, get out!!! (9/29) All tubes are out, David's getting plenty of walking in. He is really going "home" tomorrow (9/30). David's HOME (10/1), one week after getting his new heart. WOW!  Dad & Mom are with him. David is doing well (10/9), he is on a strict anti-rejection drug regiment, first heart biopsy yesterday. (11/1) David's biopsy's continue to be good. David's cardiac rehab program is delayed due to back problems, he has four fractures in his spine and in considerable pain.  Please pray for him and his donor's family, without them this would not be possible. We thank them for a very unselfish act, thanks for being an organ donor. David now has a shot of having a future!! Thank you all for your PRAYERS!

Thank you all that donated and came to
